Lifestyle Changes Boost Memory Regardless of Age or Tech Skills

1

The Summary

In a subgroup analysis of the 24-week SUPERBRAIN-MEET randomized controlled trial, researchers evaluated 277 South Korean adults (aged 60-85) with mild cognitive impairment. Participants received either a multidomain lifestyle intervention—combining face-to-face and digital coaching on diet, exercise, and cognitive training—or standard care. The lifestyle intervention significantly improved overall cognitive scores compared to the control group. Crucially, these benefits were consistent across all participants, remaining unaffected by age, education level, pre-existing vascular risks, or comfort level with using digital technology.

Why this is interesting

Dementia prevention programs often face hurdles because people assume they require high tech-literacy or physical fitness. This study shows that a modern, hybrid lifestyle program works universally. Whether you are comfortable with tablets and apps or completely new to them, and regardless of your baseline health risks, these structured lifestyle adjustments provide significant cognitive benefits. It proves that proactive interventions can be successfully scaled to help diverse populations of older adults, making preventive care accessible and effective for everyone.
